Spiders-The Web Shooters

This is the special photo story mainly made on Spiders as part of the Wildlife photography.

Spiders – Insects or Bugs?

Many people think that spiders are insects but they are mistaken. Because insects have six legs, but spiders have eight and don’t have wings, they are not able to chew. It’s hard to say that spiders are insects or bugs. Altogether all spiders are predators and many eat other spiders. Hence, they are the only arachnids that have special glands in their abdomen which produce silk.

50,000 Species!

Spiders have more than 50,000 species and more than 100 families, and they all ambush predators as they all live on hunting. They have 8 legs, and 8 to 12 eyes. Moreover, all are covered with hairs and spine. These all spider species have a slow metabolism process that they can live many days without eating. They are venomous. Some are highly venomous and some are not so much. Thereupon, they are found worldwide.

Here are some photographs of spiders. So, let’s study about their behavior.
Argiope Anasuja: They usually rest in a head down position on the web. These species spread across tropics to temperate regions
Cyrtophora Moluccensis: These rest on a platform near the rivers, lakes, ponds, or any water source place
Opadometa Fastigata: This species is separated from other leucauge spider by its pear-shaped abdomen. This spider has mixture of orange, black and white colors
Leucauge Decorata: These are orb web builders in shaded vegetation. This flat body which is yellow green, darkens medially and towards the margin. The legs are long and thin with dark brown annunciations
Ant Spider: It is likely that they also derive some protection against predator from their similarity to the ants, since ants are unpalatable to many species that eat spiders
Jumping Spider: Because of their body structure there are known as jumping spider. The body is designed on the hydraulic principle, which makes them jump long distance
Nephila Maculata: At the rear of the cephalus, there are two short horn-like projections. The abdomen is long, rounded, widest and truncated in the front, narrowing gradually to a rounded posterior
Tarantulas: Tarantulas defend themselves by throwing needle-like hairs at their attackers. They are venomous, but rarely bites people
Indian Funnel-Web Spider: Indian funnel-web Spider, a group that make funnel-shaped webs, which they use to trap insects. They are among the most abundant and conspicuous in temperate grassland areas
