Revealing the Craftsmanship and Harmony of Mishkal Mosque.

This  four storeyed Mishkal Mosque has a history of over 650 years, located at Kuttichira in Kozhikode district.
Nakhooda Mishkal, an Arab trader, built and named the structure after himself. The Portuguese attacked it in 1510, damaging its original five-storey design.

Later, Zamorin, the hereditary ruler of the Calicut kingdom, supervised the renovation and refurbishment of the shattered mosque, though the charred portions still remain. The Mishkal Mosque of Kuttichira markedly tells a tale of communal harmony as it was the Zamorin who repaired the mosque after the attack.

In the vicinity of Kuttichira Pond, the Mishkal Palli of Kozhikode features 24 engraved wooden pillars, 47 carved doors, and a spacious prayer hall accommodating approximately 400 people, while its entrance showcases Italian tiles.

Mishkal Mosque’s wooden structure doesn’t have minarets or cupolas but employs a lot of timber in its construction. Kuttichira Jumaath Masjid all in all has 47 doors, 24 carved pillars, and a big prayer hall. However, the Mishkal Mosque is one of the popular Mosques in Kuttichira as well as one of the admired medieval mosques in kerala
