Buon Natale

‘Buon Natale,’ which is an Italian word that translates to ‘Merry Christmas,’ has become a sign of the festive mood in Kottayam. District Police Chief K. Karthik IPS inaugurated the event, marking the beginning of the eagerly awaited Christmas celebrations. When the third edition took place on December 5, 2023, it marked the beginning of yet another significant chapter in the town’s calendar of celebrations.

The city decorated itself with festive colours. The event took place on a Tuesday 5th December , the town came to life with the enthusiastic participation of students from all over the place, including those attending school and college.

The procession that followed added a colorful touch to the scenery of Kottayam as it made its way through the center of the town. The city of Kottayam celebrated the third edition of the Christmas event, aptly named “Buon Natale.”

At the beginning of the celebrations, which began at the Police Parade ground, there was an energetic rally that travelled through Kottayam and concluded at the Thirunakkara ground. The organizers kicked off the exuberant events with a mass dancing session at the Police Parade area, setting the stage for an evening filled with excitement and happiness.

The participation of approximately three thousand students from a variety of schools and colleges, all of them were dressed as Santa Claus, was surely one of the most spectacular highlights of the festival. The sight of these youthful Santas making their way through the streets of Kottayam brought the town’s streets to life, contributing to the town’s contagious atmosphere of joy and unity.

The town of Kottayam exhibited its dedication to embracing the true essence of Christmas, making memories that will last a lifetime, and cultivating a feeling of community spirit with the launch of the third edition of the Buon Natale celebration.

Apart from the participants, there were families, people from other fields, and media witnessing the beauty and joy of the event. Students from the Creative Hut Institute of Photography in Mattakkara, Kottayam, played a crucial role in capturing the beauty and colours of the Buon Natale event. This contributed to the vivid show that was taking place. These upcoming photographers captured the essence of the event through their lenses, ensuring that the joyful moments and festive spirit would be preserved for future generations.

This one-of-a-kind combination of creative expression added an extra layer of depth to the event, highlighting not only the ecstatic participants but also the artistic talents of the photographers behind the camera.

During the Christmas celebration in Kottayam, there was a lovely juxtaposition of red and blue, which symbolised the joyous celebration of the festive season as well as the innovative artistic endeavour that took place. This one-of-a-kind Christmas festival has developed into a custom in Kottayam, and it exemplifies the community’s eagerness to celebrate the forthcoming holiday season.

Several Christian organizations across various cities in Kerala organize the festival known as “Buon Natale,” making it more than just an event but a true cultural celebration.
