The camera has the ability to elevate ordinary events into extraordinary experiences in the field of cinematography. As Director of Photography, Lakshmi Girish and Vishnu S. Girish photographed an innovative Turkish meal being prepared at Taxim Restaurant near Perumbavoor. Meanwhile, Chef Nabeel expertly prepared the dish, and the project visually explores food, culture, and craft in a magnificent way.
Specifically, the team filmed Lahmacun, or Turkish pizza—a flatbread with spiced meat, herbs, and vibrant toppings. Throughout the process, the cinematography captures each step, from kneading the dough to baking, while also highlighting the vivid greens of parsley, the rich reds of lamb, and the golden brown of crisp flatbread.
Furthermore, the soft yet accurate lighting directed by Lakshmi Girish enhanced the exquisite nuances of Chef Nabeel’s workmanship. In addition to documenting the dish’s creation, the photographs created a story that echoed the authenticity and tradition intrinsic to Turkish cooking. At the same time, the Assistant DOP, Vishnu S. Girish, ensured that all of the elements flowed naturally by preserving the rhythm of the visual storytelling and facilitating smooth transitions.
As a result, this project becomes an artistic portrayal of culinary competence through film tools, not merely a record of a meal. Ultimately, the end product is a brief video that captures the spirit of Taxim Restaurant and its Turkish heritage, leaving the audience with the impression that they have witnessed something genuinely authentic.
To conclude, this combination of food and cinematography creates a multisensory experience, one that is ideal for any cinematography portfolio.
