Kiran Mathew hails from Kerala, where his early engagement with visual culture shaped a lasting interest in photography as a medium of memory and expression. His understanding of image-making is rooted in a broader historical awareness—the long human effort to preserve moments, emotions, and lived experiences through art. Before the invention of the camera, this impulse found form in paintings, sculptures, and written records, each limited by time, material, and accessibility.
The arrival of photography transformed this relationship with memory. What was once rare and labor-intensive became immediate and enduring, allowing moments to be preserved with accuracy and emotional depth. For Kiran, photography evolved into a visual language—one capable of holding time still while communicating meaning beyond words.
He completed his Professional Diploma in Photography and Cinematography at Creative Hut Institute of Photography, Kerala, where he developed a strong technical foundation alongside a disciplined visual approach. His training enabled him to understand light, composition, and narrative as interconnected elements of effective image-making. His professional proficiency is further strengthened by his Kerala Government Technical Examination (KGTE) certification in Photography.
As part of his creative practice, Kiran continues to explore photography as an expressive and reflective medium. He views it as the art of freezing time—capturing fleeting moments and preserving them as visual memories that endure beyond the instant in which they were created.
Photography has a remarkable power to capture and preserve fleeting moments that may otherwise pass us by. These fleeting moments are caught and conserved through the lens, giving them a timeless character that makes them unique and everlasting for us to look back on and treasure.
