Animals are species that evolved from single-celled organisms into multicelled living things. They are mainly classified into vertebrates and invertebrates. Animals occupy virtually all of the earth’s habitat, including salt water, fresh water, land, forest, pastures, desert, air, and the interiors of animals, plants, fungi, and rock. They occupy a wide range of habitats and adapt to different environments based on their specific characteristics. Animals specifically consume other animals or organisms for survival.

Based on size, shape, and characteristics, scientists differentiate animals into herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, detritivores, and parasites. The herbivores eat plants directly, whereas the carnivores eat other animals. Omnivores consume both plants and animals, as they have evolved to survive by eating vegetation and hunting for their food. These animals have more power, and thus they became the predators for their living things according to their capabilities and characteristics.

These classifications specify their ecological roles in addition to their eating patterns. Animals contribute to the equilibrium of ecosystems by being an essential component of the food chain and food web. As a result of evolution and environmental factors, the behaviours, hunting tactics, defence systems, and reproductive cycles of different species differ significantly. Animals of all sizes, from microscopic organisms to the greatest mammals, are essential to preserving our planet’s biodiversity and natural cycles.
