Scorching heat of the noon sun radiating from the white sands of Mararikulam Beach in Alappuzha, Kerala. The Beach is crowded as well as the market which is close to the beach. A typical marketplace where people are rushing. Shopkeepers shouting at their maximum volume. In that crowd, two young men about 25 years old, Amit and Asif, are having a hard time taking photos. They both are photography students from Delhi. They have come for a photography assignment. Amit is a guy with 6ft height, fair skin and a neatly trimmed beard. Asif contrastingly is a guy about 5ft height, clean shaved and neutral skinned. He has a round-shaped spectacle and has an innocent looking face.
The Flute Player in the Market
The flute music returned with the waves. Amit hurriedly stood up and followed the sound. He was followed by Asif. They found the old man and girl. The old man played the flute on the sand near the lake as the girl danced. It looked like she bought a bright-colored dress this time. She smiled and laughed and danced around the old man. She enthusiastically hugged and kissed the old man. Watching this, Amit and Asif paused. Both were speechless. Amit’s expression displayed remorse. Asif smiled and told Amit that Amit makes them happy. He gave 500rs so the old man could buy his granddaughter a frock she may have wanted for days. They enjoyed their time on the beach instead of performing for people who didn’t listen to him play in that bustling market. The 500rs may have exceeded his daily earnings. That little girl’s delight will outweigh his 500rs. Amit smiled and told Asif he realized his error. And then took his camera and filmed the exquisite scene of the tiny girl caressing the old guy on his cheeks while he played the flute with his eyes closed as the sun sank. Amit grinned at the photo and them. His smile showed his satisfaction with the photo.
Amit’s Frustration and the Search for the Old Man
After the market, Amit and Asif went to the beach. They resumed photography that sweltering afternoon. The time went fast and they were exhausted from the heat and exertion without lunch. They got juice from a neighboring shop. After ordering two juices, Amit checked his wallet and found 20 rs. He realized he should have given the old man 500 rs instead of 20. Amit yells at Asif in frustration. He left the establishment without sipping the juice and looked for that individual. Asif tried to calm Amit by telling him to think straight and not collect money from the old guy. Amit wasn’t mentally ready to hear Asif. They searched the market’s initial spot for the old man but found him missing. Amit asked nearby shopkeepers where the old man went; they didn’t know. From the market, they returned to the beach. Amit sat on the white beach, weary. Sitting next to Amit was Asif. Due to tiredness and frustration, Amit erupted at Asif and blamed him for losing money. Asif sat silently, unsure what to do.
The Melody of Realization
Amit quickly followed the sound, with Asif behind him. They found the old man playing on the sand as the little girl danced joyfully in a new, bright-colored dress. She laughed, hugged, and kissed him with pure happiness. Watching this, Amit felt remorse, while Asif smiled and said the 500 rupees had brought them this joy. The old man’s music and the girl’s laughter meant more than any lost money. Realizing his mistake, Amit smiled, lifted his camera, and captured the heartwarming moment as the sun set behind them.
