The Park Encounter

An worried boy in his mid-twenties waits for someone one evening in a park. Despite his nice clothes, his shaky eyes and agitated gestures betray his discomfort. His head abruptly shifts to the left. Right then, a shadow appears at the doorway. The girl entering the park is likewise in her mid-twenties.

She walks in and starts to glance around, her eyes moving quickly as if she knows exactly who she’s looking for. At last, she sees him. He also sees her. Across the distance, their eyes meet, and smiles appear on their faces at once.

The female immediately begins to run in his direction. The boy then rushes in her direction after realizing this. The anticipation of their meeting is prolonged while the camera slows down the action.

Simultaneously, the couple’s voices start to play in the background, giving the impression that they are conversing. Both of them convey in their voiceovers how much they have longed for this moment, how much they miss each other, and how much they love each other.

The Twist — Narrators Revealed

The voices change suddenly. The voice of a middle aged man plays with the visuals of the couple running. This scene was actually being narrated by two filmmakers to a producer/friend. The producer/friend informs them that this will not work out and asks if they have any action script with heavy violence in the climax. They do not reply positively. So, the producer requests them to take time and bring an action script. Feeling dejected, the two guys get on a bike and ride away. 

At the Tea Shop

They stop at a tea shop and order a tea and stare in silence. The character, Tyler stares at the nearby empty road in the distance. The tea arrives. They start talking. The second character, Ed, tells Tyler not to worry and that we will tune the climax asap and present it to him. Tyler replies in the negative and says that we need a new one with a new unusual character. Tyler was not happy with the reaction of the producer/friend and wants to do a banger script to redeem himself. When Ed asks who is the lead and what is the story. Tyler replies that they are not going to choose it this time and that they are going to let fate do the decision making. Ed is confused. Tyler shows the empty intersection nearby and tells him that whoever enters the intersection first, they will be our lead character. Ed is not happy about this. Tyler convinces him and they both start to play this game of fate. 

The both of them take a sip of tea and start looking at the empty intersection nervously. Moments later, shadows appear on the road. Both of them are excited. A couple, a boy and a girl enter the intersection. On seeing this the both of them are frustrated. Tyler urges to wait for the next person. They take a sip of tea and start looking at the empty intersection. An old, feeble man walks towards the intersection struggling with a cane. Tyler and Ed are excited. Tyler says that he has got a spark and that we will begin writing the climax immediately. They drink their tea quickly.     

      Tyler’s New Story                                                             

Tyler starts narrating. Ed starts typing it on his phone. Tyler narrates the following “The old man is sitting in a park, exhausted and looking towards the floor, trying to catch his breath. All of a sudden, he looks to the back. A shadow appears. Another younger man enters the park. The old man starts trembling on seeing this. The old man was a brutal assassin in the past who changed his life for the better. After so long, his past life has finally caught up to him. The man entering is the son of the man he killed many years ago. On seeing the old man, the man quickly starts running towards him. The old man gets up and struggles to get away from him. Eventually, the man catches him and looks him in the eye and stabs him in the stomach area. Clutching his stomach as it oozes blood, the old man falls to the floor. “ 

A Sudden “thud” sound in the tea shop. Someone had fallen on the road. Hearing this, Ed and Tyler look to the road. It was that old man. He seems to be clutching on to his chest and asking for help. Ed and Tyler jolt up from their chairs, utterly shocked. They are completely confused. The character’s fate, which they imagined happened right in front of their eyes. They are not able to think. Ed standing at the back of Tyler notices someone running and takes his eyes from the old man and looks to the left. A boy seems to be running towards the right and similarly a girl seems to be running to the left. He taps the shoulder of Tyler and he too sees this and starts to tremble. The boy and the girl are running towards each other. The boys feel that something unnatural is happening. 

The Hand of Fate

Meanwhile, the old man lying down on the road is still extending his hand towards Tyler. In order to make sense of what is happening, Tyler steps forward. Ed tries to stop him. Tyler shrugs him off, hesitating and slowly extends his hands towards the old man. The two hands get closer and closer.
