PY 1711 : FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
PDPF 101
Fundamentals
of Photography
Good is what your imagination makes of it, but great is usually what reality gives you. To get great photos, you need to go out into the field and look at the world with your eye prepared to overcome challenges and find a good story. Improve your skills through working with a master photographer or professional photographer who can teach you new techniques.
Great photography doesn't just involve knowing about how lenses and aperture sizes work. It’s all about creative problem solving under realistic conditions. To take great photographs, you need to know how to use the right tools or apply the right techniques to capture your subject in a good light. By exploring, and practicing, the same skills, techniques, and tips used by experienced photographers in the field, you can improve your photography no matter what your subject. You can transform yourself from a bad photographer into a great one by practicing and honing your skills.
Understanding the basics of digital photography and DSLR camera settings are the key factors of this module. Hence, here you learn to control the important features namely exposure, color, color temperature white balance, focus, and Depth of field.
PY 1712 : PHOTOJOURNALISM AND AESTHETICS
PDPF 102
Visual Language
and Aesthetics
First, consider the dominant role of visual perception in the way we perceive and understand the world. We need to examine our visual experience and the ways we choose to see things. They affect how we think, feel and act. Train yourself to carefully observe what you're seeing, and to explore the world visually through your other senses.
Photography is defined as an art or practice of taking pictures and processing them. Beauty in photography is how people typically describe beauty in this form of artistic expression. There exist various ways in which aesthetics may be defined by different people. There does not exist any single consensus on what it means. The general idea is that photographs that are pleasing to the eye are considered to be more aesthetically beautiful than others. Different people find different things pleasing or displeasing.
An average individual may simply be concerned with how soothing a picture is, whereas a professional food photographer may be looking at the color scheme, the composition, and any additional meanings that can be derived from the picture. A professional product photographer may be wondering how difficult a particular photo was to take or process, the sharpness and color contrast of the image, or whether the ‘rules of thumb’ in photography have been maintained for the shot. These issues make the measurement of aesthetic appeal in pictures or photographs extremely difficult.
