    ART AND SCIENCE
    OF PHOTOGRAPHY

    The best choice for taking pictures of wildlife. To become a good photographer, you need to start by learning the basics.

    This session gives an understanding of various types and modes of DSLR and mirror-less cameras and lens. In addition to these, the focusing arrangements and other factors are one of the important sessions in the process of exploring digital photography.

    Hands-on practice in manual mode and its settings, along with an introduction to various DSLR / Mirror-less camera accessories, depth of field, Shutter speed, different lenses and their uses are introduced here. The module also covers knowledge of filters in photography, namely, U.V filter, Polarising filter, ND filter, close-up filters, and their uses.

    UNIT - I
    INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY

    The First Unit is responsible for: Because of advancements in technology, we no longer use bulky DSLRs but rather compact mirrorless cameras. We've been conditioned by history to recount the stories in 1000 words or less.

    UNIT - II
    EXPOSURE - APERTURE, SHUTTER, ISO

    This unit introduces students to the basics of wildlife photography, fundamentals of exposure, focus, and a variety of photography and camera methods. Light is converted into digital signals by camera sensors.

    Color Science & Color Management

    In the third unit, you'll learn how to use colour theory and colour management in order to improve the aesthetics and meaning of your images.

    Wildife Journalism
    and Visual Literacy

    Wildlife journalism is the collection, preparation, distribution, and presentation of wildlife news and related commentaries and features through such print and electronic mediums.

    The writing skills are explored and enhanced in this session. Indeed, this brings out the confidence in the students in presenting their wildlife photographs in the form of articles and photo stories or the other major forms of journalism.

    The module of Visual Literacy provides wide options in terms of nature and wildlife. The visual understanding of the images is an important part of this session. The rules of photography, visual literacy, design elements, and design principles are introduced here. As a result, students achieve expressive photographs of wildlife.

    Communication

    An understanding of various forms of communication, journalism, reportage, and writing are necessary for this project.

    Visual Literacy

    Afterwards, they learn how to recognize various types of objects, visual perception, composition, and framing effectively the narrative images.

    Photojournalism ethics, copyright regulations, and the various genres of photojournalism are all covered.

    The foundation of Lighting Language

    Light is the language of photography and pattern of light convey information just as surely as spoken words. The information that light conveys is clear and specific.

    The nature of light whether it’s natural or artificial has a greater significance in wildlife photography too. In this module, a detailed study will be carried out on the quality of light, its color and characteristics, the understanding and direction of natural light, and its effect on images. The other factors covered here are the spectrum of light, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of bright sunlight, introduction to back lighting, front lighting, etc… Furthermore, understanding what are silhouettes and its application in wildlife photography.

    The study is also carried out for artificial light or indoor light as well as indoor setup for macro photography. Students here also arrange and practice the insect’s photography in an artificial setup. This indeed makes them modify the light as per the situation and learn different settings for wildlife photography.

    The Physics and Aesthetics of Light

    Students start by learning about using strobe lights, then move on to modifying them, exploring the use of speed lights for photography, and controlling light to create images with form and depth.

    They then study the qualities and characteristics that light has, and modify them in order to create different types of lighting effects.

    and Film Making

    A wildlife documentary is a genre of non-fiction documentary films or series about animals, plant life, or other non-humans, usually taken in their native habitat. Being a high-quality wildlife filmmaker requires the ability to operate mirror­less cameras and lenses independently.

    The module here benefits you with the understanding of film making. The recording of special moments and movements of wild animals, birds, and insects is a highlighting part of this session. Most importantly, wildlife film making also helps one to document this nature and its beauty in their real habitat.

    This is indeed a session, where one explore the role of a travel photographer too. Capturing the moving images of the wild species in the natural environment becomes interesting and at the same time much challenging. As compared to any other genres of photography, Wildlife cinematography is one such type of cinematography that demands a time to time involvement of the photographer in all means.

    UNDERSTANDING
    OF CAMERA

    Understanding of the video graphic techniques, settings, camera angles, shorts, levels etc., and understanding the lighting as per it is important.

    UNIT - II
    PRINCIPLE OF
    FILM MAKING

    Furthermore, they learn to prepare story, storyboards, and screenplay for documentaries and advertisements. Learn screenwriting for feature films, commercials, documentaries, etc.

    UNIT - III
    AESTHETICS
    OF EDITING

    Finally, explore the structures of DSLR and mirror-less videography, audio, and video editing. Editing isn't just about learning software; it's also about understanding narrative structure, performance, and story boarding.

    MES/ Q 0901 : Director of Photography (NSQF Level 7)

    Individuals at this job need to determine the visual style of the production. They finalize locations and equipment that will be used. During shoots, they guide efforts of the camera crew and collaborate with lighting and grips to capture the desired look for the end-product.

    MES/ Q 0903 Assistant Cameraman (NSQF Level 4)

    Individuals at this job are responsible to mark focus lengths based on the required composition and focus and refocus the camera lenses during shoots. They are also responsible to set-up/dismantle camera equipment.

    PDWP 105
    PHOTO EDITING AND
    PORTFOLIO PREPARATION

    A portfolio is a concise collection of your wildlife photography created to show people your most impressive work. It will help you manage this important business aspect with the skill of a pro.

    Every student has to put forth their ability to form the portfolio with a collection of their photos of wildlife photography. It covers various categories such as birds photography, insect photography, animal photography, travel and nature photography. Apart from this, they also need to have a portfolio in wildlife film making. Part of the course teaches post-processing techniques for wildlife photography and film mak.

    The students have to submit the same as per the submission date, submit format and specified criteria. Faculty will be available at the Academy to provide feedback and corrections throughout the session for the making of the portfolio. Faculty will assign and guide students for the project with necessary guidelines on shooting and editing etc… Hence, the final students' portfolio will be analyzed by the panel of examiners/ juries, according to which the marks will be released.

    PY 1716 : NATURE AND WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

    Fundamentals of
    Wildlife photography

    Wildlife photography is a type of photography that documents various forms of wildlife in its natural habitat. Wildlife photographers may require both photographic skills and field craft skills.

    The practical photography session of insects, birds, and animal photography is an important factor here. The knowledge of various accessories for insects, birds, and animal photography is discussed in this session. For instance, the macro lens, the tele lenses, extension tubes, reverse ring and ring flash, etc…

    This module is meant to explore the secrets of wildlife photography with deep understanding of the natural world and the tricks to capture them effectively and creatively.

    UNIT - I
    Macro Photography

    The unit covers macro photography, including how to use a camera for close up photography, and how to take pictures of very small objects and living organisms like insects.

    UNIT - II
    Birds Photography

    Bird photography can be among the most rewarding types of nature photography. Learn the equipment and techniques you need to take Birds in flight photos!

    UNIT - III
    Animal Photography

    Learn the secrets that will help you take better nature and wildlife photos and make them stand out. You can also specialize  in reptiles, amphibian and animal photography. 

    PY 1715 : ADVERTISING PHOTOGRAPHY (If You are opting KGTE In Photography also)

    Individuals at this job need to determine the visual style of the production. They finalize locations and equipment that will be used. During shoots, they guide efforts of the camera crew and collaborate with lighting and grips to capture the desired look for the end-product.

    PY 1717 : ENGLISH AND WORKPLACE SKILLS (If You are opting KGTE In Photography also)

    Individuals at this job are responsible to mark focus lengths based on the required composition and focus and refocus the camera lenses during shoots. They are also responsible to set-up/dismantle camera equipment.

    PY1718 INDUSTRIAL INTERNSHIP (If You are opting KGTE In Photography also)

    The student should undertake an industrial internship at any photographic studio /media organisation/ film Industry or related industrial establishment/professionals etc.

    National
    Wildlife Photography Tour

    Wildlife Photography specialization demands more practical knowledge. Although the understanding of camera, settings, equipment, framing, and composition are necessary factors, field visits play a vital role in wildlife photography. Hence, the National wildlife photography tours are arranged to various wildlife oriented places in India.

    College organize Mentor guided tour in India, where the students are taken to various locations  such as Ranthambore in Rajasthan, Gir Forest in Gujarat, Kabini and Bandipur in Karnataka, Chinnar in Kerala, Sattal in Uttarakhand etc… During the course, students will be taken for any of the two National wildlife photography tours under the guidance of the faculty in-charge. These tour expenses are not included in the course fees.

    All the wildlife photography specializing students need to compulsorily undergo the wildlife photography tours. All National and International tours cost during the course  need to be borne by the students. Tour cost need to be paid in the first month of the course. Approximately, Rs.100000* + GST including flight tickets, safari, transportation, and staying. Please note that camera and lens ticket costs at any sanctuaries will be extra and as per ones lens and camera.

    International
    Wildlife Photography Tour

    One of the best part of the course here is the International Wildlife Photography tour to Maasai Mara, Kenya, or Tanzania (any one tour) for the students specializing in wildlife photography. This wildlife photography tour will be guided and accompanied by the faculty in-charge. These tour expenses are not included in the course fees.

    All the wildlife photography specializing students need to compulsorily undergo the wildlife photography tours. All National and International tours cost during the course  need to be borne by the students.  Tour cost need to be paid in the first month of the course. We organize special International tour to  Massai Mara, Kenya or Tanzania. Approximately, Rs.400000* + GST including flight tickets, safari, transportation, and staying. Please note that camera and lens ticket costs at any sanctuaries as per ones lens and camera and the Visa will be extra.

    Students are also encouraged for the individual wildlife photography tours where students can carry out the individual or group tours on self individual expenses. Mentor will always guide the students for the same and will guide them to find the appropriate destination. Students need to arrange their valid passport and visa by themselves.

    DIPLOMA IN WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY : COURSE DURATION

    Candidates will be pursuing this course with the study structure implemented by the institute, from time to time. There are instructional classes including the theory, practical, fieldwork, and Portfolio of altogether 10 months duration ie. 216 to 240 days.

    Note : Total duration includes the sessions to cover the syllabus of PDWP,  KGTE & MESC.

    DIPLOMA IN WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY : QUALIFICATION

    Wildlife Photography Course after 10th
    We never suggest that students should join for the Wildlife Photography Course after their 10th. Otherwise students must be at least 18 years old.

    Wildlife Photography courses after 12th
    Students who satisfy the criteria of 10+2 pass (any stream- Science, Commerce or Arts) from a recognized board are eligible to pursue this course.

    Wildlife Photography Courses after Graduation
    Candidates with either any diploma or any graduation or any post-graduation are eligible for the course.
